New Zealand born, Sydney-based artist Mihka Chee had a stellar 2017, releasing her debut EP ‘Both’ and scoring nationwide radio airplay - including Myf Warhurst’s show on Double J, Brisbane’s 4ZZZ and Sydney’s FBi Radio. ‘Both’ was recorded over five days at Housefox Studios with Ryan Miller (Black Rheno) producing, Oscar Dawson from Holy Holy (Ali Barter, Alex Lahey) mixing and Andrew Edgson (Studios 301) mastering.
Launching her solo project in late 2015, Chee has since acquired a loyal following, including at the fabled Newtown Social Club (RIP), The Record Crate, Valve Bar, The Newsagency and Hideaway Bar.
A music nerd from way back, Mihka went to her sister’s violin lesson at just a day old, and was hooked for life. When she was 15, her dad chauffeured her band on an 8 hour drive from Wellington to Auckland, just so they could play at a friend’s house party. At 21, she borrowed money from her sister to fund a trip to LA, where her previous band recorded their first full-length album.
Seamlessly switching between violin, piano, ukulele and guitar, Mihka mixes a classical music upbringing with punk rock teenage years to create strong, sassy indie rock.
